Sustainable bed linen made from organic cotton

In our range of sustainable cotton bed linen, you will find comforter covers, pillowcases and fitted sheets in Lavie's unmistakable natural stonewash colors. In addition to the best-selling colors such as indigo or spruce green, there are also subtly patterned color variants. Lavie cotton bed linen is woven, sewn and garment-dyed in Portugal. In this process, the finished piece of bed linen is first dipped in dye and then dyed. This can result in slight variations between the individual pieces. Lavie bed linen is pre-washed and therefore already pleasantly soft.

Is cotton bed linen sustainable?

Unfortunately not in most cases, no. Although cotton is a natural material, large quantities of pesticides are used in conventional cotton cultivation. Most conventionally produced cotton textiles also come into contact with harmful chemicals during the dyeing process. Especially when it comes to bed linen, which is in direct contact with the skin for several hours every night, it is worth paying attention to sustainability. The cotton bed linen in our range is made exclusively from organic cotton and is guaranteed to be sustainable. No pesticides are used in organic cotton cultivation and people work under fair conditions throughout the entire value chain. The dyeing processes are also not harmful to the environment or to people.

What are the properties of cotton?

Cotton fabric is very popular because it is very soft and breathable. In contrast to linen or hemp, for example, cotton absorbs more moisture and is therefore warmer. Many people therefore choose cotton bed linen or even the even warmer variant of flannel bed linen as winter bed linen. However, cotton bed linen is suitable for use all year round due to its coziness and breathability. Compared to linen or hemp, cotton fabric is very soft from the outset and is also easier to crease than linen, for example. Cotton bed linen also becomes even cozier with washing.

How do you wash cotton bed linen correctly?

Cotton bed linen is very easy to care for, but somewhat less robust than linen or hemp bed linen, for example. Although Lavie bed linen is pre-washed, we recommend not washing it too warm for the first few washes and, importantly, at a lower speed. This should prevent shrinkage. A washing temperature of 40°C or even 30°C is usually sufficient for bed linen. After one or two washes, it may be 60°C. We also recommend cotton bed linen: Do not tumble dry, as this can change the shape and color of the fabric. If the bed linen does end up in the tumble dryer, you can perhaps select a lower drying temperature. Incidentally, minor damage often occurs when the washing drum is overloaded and the laundry is spun at a high speed. Avoiding these two things also helps.
