Sustainable bed linen made from hemp

In our range of sustainable hemp bed linen you will find Comforter & pillowcases in Lavie's unmistakable natural stonewash colors. In addition to colors such as purple, royal blue or forest green, there is even an undyed version. Lavie hemp bed linen is woven, sewn and garment-dyed in Portugal. In this process, the finished piece of bed linen is first dipped in dye and then dyed. This can result in slight variations between the individual pieces. Lavie bed linen is pre-washed and therefore already pleasantly soft.

Is hemp bedding sustainable?

Hemp cultivation is environmentally friendly and conserves resources. The hemp plant requires little water, protects itself against pests and grows on any soil and in any climate. Hemp is often grown as a catch crop because it alkalizes acidic soils. Compared to cotton, hemp produces two to three times as many fibers on the same area. Lavie's hemp bed linen is extra sustainable because it is guaranteed not to come into contact with pesticides or other harmful substances and is produced fairly from start to finish.

What are the properties of hemp?

Textile fabric made from hemp used to be popular for workwear because it is extra robust and durable. At that time, however, the fiber could only be obtained by hand and the resulting fabric was very scratchy. Today, things are different: decades of expertise in the textile industry have made it possible to create pleasantly soft fabrics from hemp. In terms of texture and properties, they are comparable to linen. Hemp fabric has a cooling effect in summer and a warming effect in winter, and is also anti-allergic. The stonewash finish gives Lavie hemp bed linen a pleasantly soft feel and a matt casual look.

How do you wash hemp bed linen properly?

Hemp bed linen can also be a little creased. If you still prefer them smooth, you can iron them a little, but not too hot! One of our most important care tips is also: Please do not tumble dry hemp fabrics, as they can shrink and change shape and color. A washing temperature of 40°C or even 30°C is usually sufficient for bed linen. Occasionally 60°C is also acceptable, but not the first time you wash it, but after a few washes at lower temperatures.
