Design and social responsibility
Every step of the production process, the origin of all materials, and even the banks from which the company takes out loans are transparently documented. The natural rubber for the soles is harvested in the Amazon region by indigenous peoples. The cotton is grown and harvested in northeastern Brazil under the strictest fair-trade guidelines. And finally, in the south, the “ Veja ” shoes—or “baskets,” as they’re known in French—are manufactured and sewn. Upon arrival in mainland France,Veja hires local people participating in social reintegration projects to handle the logistics, warehousing, and shipping of the shoes. The company sources the electricity needed for these operations from a cooperative of small, eco-friendly producers.
